Intelligent Parameter Design-Based Impedance Optimization of STATCOM to Mitigate Resonance in Wind Farms

In certain regions and countries, the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is required in large-scale wind farms to provide reactive power support. Due limitations complexity distributed systems, STATCOM considered as an effective cheap alternative for impedance shaping mitigate resonance. However, there still a lack of quantitative stability analysis practical optimization approach achieve so. Therefore, based on sequence matrix models Type-IV turbine generator (WTG) network modeling, this article presents network-based accurately reveal quantitatively evaluate damping provided by STATCOM. A typical farm Western China exemplified demonstrate proposed analysis. Then, intelligent parameter design-based proposed, which uses heuristic intelligence algorithm solve controller parameters obtain optimal margin under constraints desired performance. Finally, comparison with understanding-of-models-based method confirms efficacy approach.
